It is to preserve the credibility and integrity of the examination, it says.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Examinations Board (MEB) has defended the decision to have a re-sit for four subjects in the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR).
It said in a press statement that the purpose was to preserve the credibility and integrity of the examination.
It also said the move was made after it had considered the views of “several quarters” on what to do following a leak of Science, English, Mathematics and Tamil papers.
“The MEB understands the difficulties by all parties, specifically the pupils and parents involved and has taken the necessary measures to prevent a recurrence,” it said.
It said candidates refusing to re-sit would not be given a grade but would be recorded as absent.
The MEB has fixed September 30 as the date for English papers 014/1 and 014/2 and Science papers 018, 028 and 038.
The date for the re-sit of the Mathematics (015/1, 025/1, 035/1) and Tamil (036 and 037) tests is on October 9.
A total of 472,853 pupils nationwide would have to re-sit the four subjects this year.
