YIPEEE! Gerakan revels at Perkasa plan to ‘abandon BN’
Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang is rejoicing at the prospect that right-wing group Perkasa will no longer support BN.
This is comes after Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali’s declaration yesterday that he will no longer support the ruling coalition if Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak goes ahead with his promise to abolish the Sedition Act 1948.
“Gerakan Youth welcomes the statement by the Perkasa president as it would be good news for BN.
“We have no issues if Perkasa wishes to support Pakatan Rakyat as soon as possible,” Tan said in a statement today.
Tan said Gerakan fully supported Najib’s bid to have the Sedition Act replaced with a new National Harmony Act.
He added that when that day comes, he hopes Ibrahim will keep his word and stay away from BN.
Yesterday, Najib reiterated his commitment to see the Sedition Act go, amid a crackdown on opposition politicians using the colonial-era law.
The crackdown has also extended to the academia and media with law lecturer Azmi Sharom charged under the Sedition Act and Malaysaikini journalist Susan Loone arrested and probed under the same law.
However, Najib said until the replacement law comes into place, authorities need to rely on existing laws, including the Sedition Act. -M'kini
