Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak may have promised that the strengthened Sedition Act will be used fairly, but what is there to stop him from breaking his promise again? asked DAP's Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.
Kok said this is after Najib went against his own word to abolish the Sedition Act in 2012.
Instead, the premier last week announced that the colonial era law will be retained and "strengthened".
"How does he expect the public to trust him when he has just broken his 2012 promise to repeal the Act?
"And how could a prime minister break his promise? It is no wonder that netizens have often joked that BN’s slogan is 'Janji Dicapati'," Kok (right) told delegates at the Malacca DAP Convention in Malacca today.
She pointed out that Najib's about turn came amid several politicians, academics and activists being hauled up under the Sedition Act.
Instead, Kok said the "hate speeches" at the Umno general assembly last week went unpunished.
"Did the speeches made by Umno leaders and delegates reflect any or real commitment to 1Malaysia concept?
"The answer is obvious. The concept is in tatters," she said. -Asiaone
