The Kelantan state government will decide tomorrow whether to go ahead with a special state assembly sitting on Monday to amend laws to accomodate hudud, as the state battles the worst flood crisis in history.
"As of now, it is still on as scheduled, but we are monitoring the flood situation and the Menteri Besar will decide on that tomorrow," Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah told Bernama today.
Earlier, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali said a briefing on the Kelantan hudud bill was postponed as party leaders were busy attending to flood relief works.
Monday's sitting was planned to amend Kelantan's Shariah Criminal Code Enactment II, part of a move to pave the way for a private member's bill in Parliament in order to enforce the Islamic penal code.
PAS's Pakatan Rakyat ally DAP has warned that ties with the Islamist party will further deteriorate if it was adamant in convening the state assembly sitting, with veteran opposition leader Lim Kit Siang saying he did not see any reason to attend future meetings of the coalition.
PKR, on the other hand, said it had yet to decide whether to support the amendment, and preferred to first see the draft.
As at 5pm today, over 45,000 people in Kelantan have been evacuated due to flood.
