KL swamped by flash floods

A flash flood at a stretch along Jalan Ipoh trapped five cars in the floodwaters, according
to the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department. No one was injured in the incident which occurred about 10.30 pm.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman said the department was notified of the floods at 10.45 pm and rushed a
team of fire and rescue personnel there.
"The team found that the floodwaters had risen up to the level of the road divider and trapped five cars," he said in a statement.
Informasi Bencana @PortalBencana reported flash floods at Kg Padang Balang near the Sungai Gombak at 12.12 am, which receded almost an hour later.
PBanjir KL @PBanjirKL reported flash floods at Kg Puah, Jalan Tun Razak near the Perkim building, Jalan Rahmat, Jalan Sentul Manis and Jalan Ipoh. The floodwaters receded within the hour.
Meanwhile, in Johor, heavy rain and an exceptionally high tide caused flash floods in Kampung Plentong Baru early today, forcing 176 people out of their homes, police said.
Johor Baharu Selatan Police chief ACP Sulaiman Salleh said the villagers, from 31 families, were evacuated at about 3.30 am to a relief centre set up at Sekolah Kebangsaan Permas 1, Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, here.
"The evacuees comprised 53 men, 57 women, 62 children, a disabled man and three infants," he said when contacted.
Sulaiman said the floodwaters were reportedly receding.
A spokesman of the Johor National Security Council said heavy rain fell between 1 am and 2 am and there was an exceptionally high tide. "Up to 113 mm of rain fell in one hour. At that time, the tide came in at a
height of 3.6 metres," he said. – Bernama
