GEORGE TOWN - A planned protest in front of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s residence scheduled to take place today proved to be a hoax when no protesters turned up.
A banner advertising the protest was circulated in several places yesterday.
According to the banner, the demonstration was meant to urge Lim to apologise over over his 'Non-Muslims can use the word "Allah"' statement.
Northeast police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said police found no suspicious movements by any groups in the area.
"So far, the situation is under control and peaceful. We don't see any signs of protest here," he said.
About 30 policemen in uniforms and plain clothes were seen patrolling the chief minister's residence since 12.30pm.
When contacted yesterday, Perkasa Penang Youth chief Riduad Azuddin said he had no knowledge about the demonstration and denied any involvement in it.
"I have no idea about it. It's not our program," he said to theSun. - Sundaily
