Youth chief wants Guan Eng to resign if he can prove the existence of unscrupulous activities in Penang.
GEORGE TOWN: Penang Umno Youth will mobilise its members to gather information and evidence regarding the existence of gambling, prostitution, and unlicensed entertainment centres in the state.
Youth chief Rafizal Abdul Rahim said that information regarding the purported illegal activities will be submitted to the state’s Umno Liaison Committee next week before being sent out to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
“Media reports and statistics issued by Penang Island Police Chief Abdul Rahim Hanafi clearly shows that allegations of illegal activities were true, as voiced out by Permatang Pauh Division Umno chief Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said.
“So we (Umno Youth) would like to inform Lim today that the Youth will collect information and pictures pertaining to the activities and hand it over to him as proof.
“But we want to challenge Lim to resign as Chief Minister if Umno Youth can prove that such activities exist in Penang,” he said at a press conference.
Rafizal was responding to an online news portal report which claimed Mohd Zaidi alleged during his debate at the Umno General Assembly last Friday that activities such as gambling and prostitution were the source of power of the Chinese who did not support Barisan Nasional (BN) in Penang, and hence wanted enforcement to be strengthened.
As a result, Mohd Zaidi was criticised by many parties including Lim, MCA and members of Gerakan.
Yesterday, Mohd Zaidi said his statement regarding the Chinese in Penang was wrongly reported by certain media outlets causing him to be criticised even by fellow BN component parties, MCA and Gerakan.
He explained that in his speech at the Umno General Assembly, he mentioned that weak enforcement in the state “sometimes” enabled the Chinese to become rich through illegal activities including gambling and vice.
