Puchong MP says wrongdoing in land deal should receive attention instead.
KUALA LUMPUR: The police have been criticised for trying to track down those who leaked information about a controversial land deal between troubled 1Malaysia Development Bhd and Tabung Haji, the pilgrims fund.
Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo said the police had their priorities wrong, by carrying out investigations under the Official Secrets Act about the leaks.
“This is quite ridiculous. Investigations under the OSA in circumstances like these have a chilling effect and drive away those who have more information and who could assist the police further in the matter,” he said.
If any information had revealed matters requiring further investigation in the land deal, the police should investigate that information and not the informer instead, he said.
He urged the Federal Government not to ignore problems which were staring it in the eyes and which urgently need to be addressed. “Going after the informers is a step in the wrong direction,” he said.
