No compromise if the 26 arrested for destroying public property are found to be Umno Youth members, says Menteri Besar.
KUALA NERUS: Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the damage at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium following the FA Cup match between Terengganu and Lions XII last Saturday is estimated at RM150,000.
Ahmad Razif said this did not include the ambulances and other vehicles outside the stadium that were destroyed.
“After the investigation, we want the stadium to be repaired immediately,” he said after presenting aid for the purchase of computers to students of higher education institutes by Yayasan Terengganu.
He said the stadium was in the process of being upgraded after it had not been in use for seven years when its roof collapsed roof in 2008.
On the arrest of 26 youths by security forces on the night of the incident, Ahmad Razif said he had requested state Umno Youth chief Johari Abu Bakar to give an explanation.
“We will not compromise on this matter if it is true that Umno Youth members are involved and started the violence, destroying public property,” he said.
The stadium, which was used for the first time since the roof collapsed in 2008, was slightly damaged when some football fans went wild as they were not satisfied with the referee’s decision during the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
