PAC meetings can only be put off by members

PAC members did not discuss any postponement of its hearings.

KUALA LUMPUR: Tumpat MP Kamaruddin Jaafar has clarified that Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearings are organised by its members and if there’s any postponement it will be done by them, not anyone else. “PAC never discussed any postponement of its meetings.”

“The CEO of 1MDB was supposed to come but he didn’t,” said Kamaruddin who is a PAC member. “There will be sincere implications.”

“This is an offence against Parliament’s laws.”

He was commenting on a letter faxed to the PAC wherein it was stated that its meetings had been postponed.

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua condemned the fax and wondered who was behind it. “This is contempt of Parliament.”

“If the Speaker was responsible for the fax, we want to know which Clause permits him to cancel or put off PAC meetings and hearings.”

PAC Vice-Chairman, Tan Seng Giaw, meanwhile confirmed at a press conference that a brief report on the hearings that it had held so far on 1MDB may be released soon.

“We in the PAC are under public pressure to come up with a report on hearings held so far on 1MDB as soon as possible.”
