The Permata division under the Prime Minister's Department today signed four memorandums of understanding (MoU) and three terms of reference (ToR) with agencies implementing the Permata programme to enhance collaboration in the academic, research and service fields.
The prime minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who is also the patron of the Permata programme, witnessed the signing of the MoUs and ToRs at Seri Perdana today.
Also present was senior consultant to the Prime Minister's Department, Tan Sri professor Dr Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hasan Shahabudin.
The signing of the MoUs is to strengthen cooperation, especially in promoting the development of children and to nurture their talents in the related fields.
The Permata programme specialises in early childhood education.
The three implementing agencies which signed the ToRs are the Tourism and Culture Ministry, Rural and Regional Development Ministry and Department of National Unity and Integration.
In her speech, Rosmah said the signing of the MoUs and the ToRs was a manifestation of the sincerity and commitment of the implementing agencies to continue enhancing harmony and existing cooperation for the benefit of the children of the present generation and the next.
"I'm very confident we can intensify collaboration to provide the best opportunities for children, students and teenagers. Hopefully, this understanding will spur rapid efforts by all parties to help Permata become a platform of excellence for children and students.
"It is hoped that the existing understanding continues to enhance the quality and excellence of the Permata programmes and promote them as value-added programmes through greater involvement of skilled and experienced experts," she said.
Rosmah expressed hope that the Permata programmes together with the implementing agencies would boost existing cooperation and opportunities to generate new activities in an effort to elevate knowledge.
In the meantime, Rosmah said Permata Kurnia, a specialised learning centre for children with autism, would start operations this December while the construction of the Permata Children's Specialist Hospital is expected to be completed in 2018. – Bernama
