Prime Minister Najib Razak’s wife Rosmah Mansor has been criticised for her aide’s statement attacking Bersih.
PKR central committee member Latheefa Koya in a statement today said Rosmah has to take responsibility for her aide Rizal Mansor’s public statements.
“Firstly, it is highly inappropriate for the PM’s wife’s aide to make politically controversial remarks.
“Traditionally, the PM’s wife does not get involved in political disputes.
“Rosmah is fully accountable for any statements Rizal makes; these statements cannot be made without her knowledge and approval.
“No wife of a prime minister of Malaysia has previously acted in such a manner,” said Latheefa.
Yesterday Rizal in a statement accused Bersih of perpetrating violence and accused the purported acceptance of funds from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF) as proof the billionaire is the “mastermind” behind the coalition, to “topple the government”.
Bersih is holding its fifth rally on Nov 19 to call for electoral reform and for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak over the 1MDB scandal, which has become the subject of a US kleptocracy crackdown.
‘Cut and paste propaganda’
Furthermore, Latheefa lambasted Rizal’s accusation against Bersih as baseless, “cut and paste” propaganda scripted by Umno-linked right wing groups, which she claimed the aide repeated without even providing evidence.
“My question to Rizal – what exactly is Soros’ revenge?
“Why does he say the so-called funding has proven everything?
“Apart from a very general ‘bogeyman’ fear conjured up against Soros, no one has ever come up with any kind of proof of plots or schemes by Soros against Malaysia.
“On the contrary, all the evidence shows that he supports laudable and useful projects to build democracy and transparency in the developing world.”
Latheefa reminded Rizal that his immediate overall boss Najib himself met Soros in 2012, asking why the PM would meet this foreign bogeyman who allegedly is out to topple his government?
Indeed, she argued that the real danger of foreign influence and control comes from the massive loan taken from communist China by Najib to build the ERCL.
“At a whopping RM55 billion, it is unprecedented in our country’s fiscal history. This is the real cause of worry for us all, not Bersih or Soros,” she said.
Latheefa likened Rizal’s “attack” againt Bersih to that of others who are trying to derail the planned rally, sniping that all who did so showed a lack of understanding and respect for the Constitution.
