PETALING JAYA: An Indonesian worker was crushed to death by falling iron scaffolding at a construction site in Kampung Sungai Buah, Dengkil, Sepang, on Jan 2.
In a statement today, Sepang police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Ali said Eko Purnomo, 42, was killed at the Southville City project site at 9.30am, NST Online reported.
“According to a witness, he had alerted his co-workers to escape after he heard something dropping from above.
“Several workers managed to run but Eko failed to escape in time. He was already dead when his co-workers pulled him out from the rubble,” he said.
A post-mortem revealed that he died of traumatic asphyxia and police have classified the case as sudden death.
Eko is the third victim of falling heavy equipment at a construction site in recent months.
On Nov 4 last year, a married couple were killed after piling equipment fell on the car they were travelling in, in the Jalan Meru industrial area in Klang.
Abd Rahim Abd Rahman, 51, and his wife, Nurhayati Rosli, 46, an Indonesian national, died on the spot.
In August last year, Chin Khoon Sing, 24, was killed instantly when a crane hook fell 20 storeys down and landed on her Perodua Kelisa which was passing by in Jalan Raja Chulan.
Chin, who worked as an administrative executive in Puchong, was on her way to dinner with her family -FMT
