KOTA BELUD: Umno and Barisan Nasional’s (BN) media units have been urged to disseminate government polices to the masses to ward off the accusations and attacks waged by the opposition.
Sabah BN secretary Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the people must be made aware of the work the government was doing and not be influenced by the opposition’s accusations and instigations.
“I urge the Umno and BN media units to make viral the efforts of the government all this while.
“This is one of the preparations the party is making to face the coming general election, aside from mobilising the election machinery,” he told reporters at the end of his visit to Kota Belud today.
“Prime Minister Najib Razak has given an early hint that 2017 is a special year. Maybe, the general election is coming soon,” he said.
Rahman also congratulated Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Maximus Ongkili on his appointment as Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) acting president yesterday.
This followed an announcement by PBS secretary-general Johnny Mositun that Ongkili had been appointed acting president with immediate effect to enable party president Joseph Pairin Kitingan to leave politics.
However, Joseph will remain as Sabah deputy chief minister and Sabah infrastructural development minister until the end of his term.
Pairin confirmed his refusal to contest in the next general election during the PBS delegates congress in November.
Meanwhile, Rahman said the Kota Belud People’s Housing Project, which was launched in 2015, was progressing smoothly and expected to be completed in the middle of next year.
Rahman, who is minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said he was satisfied with the progress of the project in Kampung Pirasan, near here, which would benefit the low-income group in the area.
“This is a sign of thanks from the BN government for the support of the people in the district,” he said. -Mkini
