Former Umno member Ezam Md Nor has lambasted Umno Youth for flogging the dead horse of the BMF and Bank Negara Foreign exhange (Forex) saga, which he said won't do anything to restore confidence in Malaysia's present government.
"The confidence of the world can't be restored by trumpeting tales from 30 years ago. The world's faith in Malaysia will only be restored with government action against those responsible for present day crimes," said Ezam in a statement.
He related that during the BMF and Bank Negara foreign exchange debacles, there were arrests as well as convictions for BMF, while others lost their jobs over the Bank Negara forex fracas.
"Those actions may not be perfect and may not be truly right, but the point is, the world did not lose faith in Malaysia that time as actions were taken..." he said.
Ezam added that Umno Youth should be asking why is there no action against personalities linked to the present 1MDB scandal like the infamous financier Jho Low as their names were mentioned in court proceedings aswell as investigations overseas.
"They should ask the PM, why were there no arrests in the 1MDB and SRC International cases, where others were picked up by our neighbours and in overseas jurisdictions," he said.
Ezam argued that answers to these questions are important as it will help to restore confidence in our government, whereas flogging dead horses like the resurrection of the BMF and forex issues, won't do anything but add to the government's folly. -Mkini
