Jamal lodges MACC report over 'abuse of RM200m'

Sungai Besar Umno division head Jamal Md Yunos has lodged a report at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over alleged abuse of public funds by the Selangor government.
Jamal alleged that RM200 million have been misappropriated from the state's Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) scheme in which senior citizens can nominate a beneficiary who will receive RM2,500 for funeral or other expenses.
He had lodged the report today despite having yesterday issued a five-day ultimatum to the state government to address his allegation.
"I have given five days but we fear that the evidence would be destroyed following the expose," he told reporters in Putrajaya today.
By lodging report, he hoped the authorities will investigate his allegations that the funds were being channeled to several MPs.
In one example, he claimed that funds which were supposed to be channeled to one MP ended up in the account of someone who was totally unrelated.
"What was the capacity of this individual, who is not a representative of the MP. Why was there a need for a proxy?" asked Jamal.
Apart from Selangor lawmakers, Jamal also accused several opposition MPs in Kuala Lumpur of having abused the funds as well.

On criticisms over his demonstration yesterday, which involved coffins and hearses, Jamal said it was justified.
"I don't think this is (exploitation) because a large amount of money had been abused by those entrusted (by the people).
"What I have done was just a gimmick that ended shortly, we were not campaigning at the area for one week. They were trying to twist and cover up the issue," he said.- Mkini
