Jamil's presence at rally a concern for MIC

MIC will inform Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak of their concerns over the presence of a cabinet minister at the rally in support of the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965.
Party president Dr S Subramaniam, who is also the health minister, said he was not made aware of Minister in the Prime Minister Department Jamil Khir Baharom's intention to attend the rally.
"The presence of a minister in the rally is something that I was not aware prior to that, only after that.
"We will take it up with the prime minister and other cabinet members and then we will discuss this issue," Subramaniam told a press conference after visiting the Kuala Lumpur general hospital today.
He said the premier had informed him that a final decision on the proposed amendments will only be made after interested parties were consulted and that BN has reached a consensus on the matter.
Apart from Jamil, his deputy Ashraff Waidi Dusuki and former home minister Syed Hamid Albar were VIPs at the rally which was organised by PAS and support by various Muslim groups.
The rally was held to promote PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's bill which sought to increase the penalty cap for Syariah courts.

Jamil Khir told the rally that the amendments that were being sought would not affect the rights of non-Muslims and questioned why there was resistance to this move.
In another development, Subramaniam said that the post-mortem report on murder victim Kim Jong-nam may be ready by Wednesday and passed to the police.
Jong-nam, the half brother of North Korean ruler Kim Jong-un, was believed to have been murdered at KLIA2. Police have arrested four individuals and are seeking seven more individuals for questioning.- Mkini
