Nik Abduh: Critics of Act 355 fear the unity of Muslims

Detractors of PAS' proposed amendments to Act 355 do not fear the law itself, but the unity of Muslims who back it and the "victory" of Islam that would ensue, said Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Aziz.
In a Facebook posting last night, the PAS youth chief said : "They do not fear the amendments to the act per se. It is negligible and does not affect them. Their lives will go on as usual.
"What they fear is the unity among Muslims. Their products will stop 'selling'. Secular, liberals, socialists and those who live free of religious binds, all will buried."
Nik Abduh's comment comes following the 55,000-strong turnout at PAS' rally for Act 355 last Saturday, which also saw the attendance of several Umno lawmakers.
"This is only Umno supporting PAS' motion in parliament and the proposed amendments.
"What if after this Umno members and leaders start to accept PAS better until PAS can win up to 40 parliamentary seats or more? Wouldn't the unity of Muslims be good for Malaysia's wellbeing?" he asked.
PAS' push for the amendment of Act 355, or Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act had received criticism from various quarters, including from BN component parties.
BN has now taken over the private member's bill presented by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, to be debated in the Parliament in the next sitting.

It seeks to raise the sentencing limit of the syariah court from a maximum RM3,000 fine, six strokes of the rotan and five-year jail limit to maximum 30 years' jail, RM100,000 fine and 100 strokes of the rotan.
In Saturday's rally, Hadi had also called those who are against the amendments, "mosquitoes" and "fleas."
In the posting, Nik Abduh, who is also Pasir Mas MP, said : "I envision the victory of Islam celebrated by PAS, Umno and all Muslims. A victory forged from awareness, mutual respect, love and Muslim brotherhood without jealousy, disappointment and defeat."
He added that it was now time for PAS to combine forces with all Muslims.
"This is not a daydream. This is our struggle for the success of Muslims."- Mkini
