Phantom voters in Sekinchan?

The latest electoral rolls has suggested 358 new voters stayed at nine houses at the tranquil village in Sekinchan state constituency.
DAP Sekinchan state assemblyperson Ng Suee Lim, who was immediately alarmed by the abnormal increment of new voters along the road of Rizab Sarbini of Parit Tujuh, visited the site.
"Rizab Sarbini is traditionally a Malay village. But now we have 358 new voters here and 232 of them are from multiracial backgrounds moving in from Klang, Kuala Lumpur, Sabah and Sarawak," he told Malaysiakini.
He was concerned about "phantom voters" who in fact were not residing at the area, being moved in to Sekinchan.
Beside this, he noted a total of 1,614 new voters appeared in Sekinchan as published in the latest electoral roll lately. This was an increase of more than 50 percent as compared with the previous quarter of the electoral roll.
The Election Commission (EC) has allowed a one-week protest, which ended by Monday.
He suspected there were efforts to increase the ratio of Malays in Sekinchan, a mixed-seat with 56 percent majority Chinese voters and 41 percent Malay voters.
"How so? We noticed 1,074 of 1,614 new voters were Malay while only 405 Chinese registered as voters," he added.
"I was informed by a supporter of an effort back in October 2016 to mobilise a mass of people from Kuala Lumpur, including the homeless, to have their MyKad (address) changed to Sekinchan and then later registered as voters here.
"I have no doubt I will lose in the next general election, even if I win with 2,239 majority (against MCA)," lamented the Selangor DAP publicity secretary.

It is known that a local Umno leader wants the state seat from its ally MCA since the latter lost three terms consecutively.
Ng has lodged protests against 1,191 voters from outside who have moved into Sekinchan.
Malaysiakini has texted Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos and is awaiting for his comment.- Mkini
