Railwaymen's Union threatens to picket in Liow's constituency

The Railwaymen's Union of Malaya (RUM) has threatened to protest in Transport Ministry Liow Tiong Lai's constituency if he refuses to engage them on the railway network access agreement.
"I have been trying to meet Liow and Liow had promised to meet but to date, the meeting did not happen.
"We are angry and we may picket in Bentong so that he realises that RUM is serious as it is a matter of workers' rice bowl," said RUM president Abdul Razak Md Hassan.
The Railway Network Access Agreement, to be signed between Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) and Railway Assets Corporation (RAC), will allow the outsourcing of KTMB works.
Abdul Razak is worried the agreement may cause existing KTMB workers to lose their jobs in future.
Speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, Abdul Razak said he will hold Liow accountable if the agreement were to be signed and may even support the opposition against the Bentong MP.

"I am not a politician nor have I joined any party.... But if there are those who want to condemn us, then we will go after them," he said.
Abdul Razak claimed the agreement was first mooted by Liow.
He said under the agreement, RAC can intervene in KTMB's operations and will have the right to outsource services in KTMB.
"If RAC outsources jobs to the private sector then KTMB staff may be laid off," he said.- Mkini
