Ku Nan cites Quran's 'each his own' in advice to Perlis mufti

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today cited a Quranic verse in his advise to Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin.
"We are a multi-religious, multicultural country. Remember the Quranic verse which states 'for you is your religion, for me is my religion," the federal territories minister told reporters at a programme in Bandar Tun Razak today, citing the Quranic verse from chapter al-Kafirun.
Tengku Adnan's advice was in response to a poem written by Asri, which many claimed is insulting to Hinduism.
In the Malay-language poem posted on his Facebook page on Friday, Asri had made references to “cow worshippers” uniting to “trouble our preacher” and send the preacher to “the despotic government that worships fire and practices sati (widow burning)”.
The practice of sati is a olden day ritual that has been abolished and outlawed in India.
The poem is widely seen as a reference to calls predominantly came from Hindu groups for controversial preacher Zakir Naik’s deportation back to India.
The mufti later explained that “cow worshippers” was actually a reference to India, for allegedly allowing Muslims to be killed for supposedly eating beef.
Some 40 NGO representatives and activists yesterday lodged mass police reports against Asri over the poem.

Among others, each of the similar reports accuse the mufti of making a seditious speech aimed at causing hatred by Muslims against Hindus.
Asri today again defended his poem and lamented it had been spun by a certain groups to say that he was referring to Malaysia's Hindus.
As of press time, the Facebook posting of the poem is no longer available on Asri's page.- Mkini
