The police spent 80-minutes recording statements from Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua over a video in which he made allegations against Prime Minsiter Najib Abdul Razak.
After being grilled at Bukit Aman, Pua was taken away in a police vehicle at about 11.40am.
Reporters rushed to the vehicle and asked him why he was being taken away, to which Pua replied, "(they) want to take (my) hand phone".
Pua's lawyer Lim Lip Eng said his client was escorted to his office in Petaling Jaya.
"The investigation officer said before they get the phone, he will be put under police's custody. But my interpretation is he is under arrest," said Lim.
It is to Lim's understanding that Bukit Aman will not be seeking a remand.
It is understood that investigations were being conducted under Section 500 of the Penal Code, which relates to criminal defamation.
The video in question was published on Pua's Facebook page, shortly after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang tabled a motion to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965.
Najib had previously initiated a defamation suit against Pua over the video.
