Umno offering cars, bikes and more prizes at 71st anniversary bash

Umno is offering cars, bikes and more prizes to mark its 71st anniversary celebration this coming May.

Seven cars - including a Proton Perdana - and 10 bikes are up for grabs in a lucky draw open to members and new members who are registered voters on the main celebration day on May 11.

Those who want to be in the lucky draw must register to attend the celebrations - to be held at the Bukit Jalil stadium - by May 10.

Meanwhile prizes ranging from RM2,000 to RM5,000 and tablets can be won through a Malay and English essay contests on the theme 'Tujuh Dekad Berjuang Bangsa' (Seven decades fighting for race).

Similar prizes are also being offered for a short video contest.

The prizes were announced by Umno executive secretary Ab Rauf Yusoh at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

He said an international auditing body will be appointed to ensure that the prizes are awarded transparently.

Rauf said those voter registration and membership booths will be open at a carnival to be held on May 10 as a prelude to the big bash.

He said there has been an upsurge of new members recently, with 3,000 people signing up to join Umno two weeks ago.

"We did a random survey, to hear from the horse's mouth, most said they loved Umno's struggle," he said, noting that most new members were youths under 30.- Mkini
