ISLAM AT 1MDB CROSSROAD IN MALAYSIA: PAS NO. 2 TUAN IBRAHIM DEMANDS ACTION, ‘RM90MIL’ HADI TO SHIELD MR & MRS MO1 NAJIB & ROSMAH?

FEW Malaysian politicians have been as dogged in their criticisms about the 1MDB debacle as Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
So in the wake of the latest suit filed by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) to recover billions of ringgit allegedly stolen from the state investor fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1(MDB) to fund the lifestyle of the rich and famous, the PAS deputy president offered a few pointed observations about the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Auditor-General and the Governor of Bank Negara.
‎Surely a police force that has expertly tracked terrorist activities in Malaysia is competent enough to investigate the flow of funds from the government-owned entity, he reasoned.
Surely the MACC that has gone after civil servants for corruption, no matter how small the amount, is able to lift the lid on all the shenanigans in 1MDB, he wondered.
And what about the widely-acclaimed Auditor-General and Bank Negara Governor?
“These four teams must be more capable than the DoJ but sadly they must now face humiliation after humiliation because they are facing obstacles that cannot be mentioned,” said Tuan Ibrahim in a posting on harakahdaily.net
“Why is the DoJ able to investigate the flow of funds from 1MDB so thoroughly while the investigation in 1MDB inside the country has not bore any fruit.
“The police investigation is still not completed. The probe by the Auditor-General has been placed under the Official Secrets Act. And the Attorney-General is behaving like he is a lawyer for an individual and not the country.
‎It remains unclear what is the position of PAS President Hadi Awang on 1MDB and the latest suit by the DoJ. He is recovering at the National Heart Institute ‎and has been releasing occasional articles on current affairs and global issues, including the spat between Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
He has close ties with Prime Minister Najib Razak and has taken his party closer to Umno in recent months. The shocking disclosures on how taxpayers’ money was allegedly spent by Jho Low to purchase a yacht, properties, paintings and diamonds will put this rapprochement under some pressure, given the businessman’s close ties with Najib.
Every time Tuan Ibrahim says something on 1MDB, more PAS members question the wisdom of sharing the same platform with Najib and Umno.
