Penang gives minimum RM1,000 in Raya bonus to state civil servants

Teachers at Islamic and independent Chinese schools to get RM200-RM300 in one-off aid as well, says Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
lim-guan-eng-rauaGEORGE TOWN: Penang civil servants will get a Hari Raya Puasa bonus of three-quarters of their monthly salary or a minimum of RM1,000 each.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng announced today that 3,741 civil servants would get the “special financial aid”.
It will be paid on June 20, a week before Hari Raya Puasa. It will cost the state government approximately RM7.5 million, compared with RM6.9 million last year.
Those receiving the special bonus this year include staff from the city and municipal councils, and also state statutory bodies.
In addition, a separate aid payment of RM300 will be given to teachers and staff of Islamic and independent Chinese schools in the state, while teachers of mahaad tahfiz, sekolah pondok and Islamic kindergartens will get RM200 in aid.
Lim said in a statement that he hoped the special financial aid would help public servants and teachers involved reduce their burden in celebrating Hari Raya Puasa in the wake of the increasing cost of living.
However, the payout for Penang’s civil servants comes with work-related conditions, such as requiring staff to be on-time for work and being free of disciplinary problems.
The bonus amount will be slightly reduced depending on the “infringements”. -FMT
