THE LOST CAUSE

The DAP today has gone against all its fundamental values. The regression of DAP started since they decided to sleep with Malaysia’s father of destruction, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.
Karamjit Gill
The Democratic Action Party (DAP) was founded in 1966 and was based on principles of human rights, equality, and social justice. For umpteen years DAP preached on solidarity being the strongest weapon in the struggle against oppression and injustice. DAP claims to be against tyranny, dictatorship, corruption, exploitation, and oppression. Like a general, DAP were always in the forefront among the Opposition representatives tirelessly fighting for a better Malaysia.
However, the rocket that is suppose to launch upwards has somewhat stalled. The DAP today has gone against all its fundamental values. The regression of DAP started since they decided to sleep with Malaysia’s father of destruction, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. Since Mahathir’s induction into the Opposition fray, things have gone haywire. Infighting among the Opposition leaders is destroying everything built over the years for a better Malaysia.
Some claim the upcoming GE14 will see three-cornered fights in numerous constituencies. Although numerically it may appear to be only three, the sub-groups among the Opposition are making it look like there will be many more corners to the fight.
Presently, there is a pro-Mahathir group boasting juggernauts like Dato’ Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Dato’ Mohd Zaid Ibrahim, and the jokers from Perkasa. We also have a pro-Anwar group consisting of Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Nurul Izzah Anwar, and Rafizi Ramli. The third group that seems to be on the fence presently are Lim Guan Eng and father Lim Kit Siang, Dato’ Seri Azmin Ali, and Gobind Singh Deo.
Scuffle among the Opposition has become so distasteful that it has come to no surprise that 31% of 18,000 respondents in Rafizi’s Invoke Malaysia research would rather have Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as Prime Minister. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim got the second highest number of votes (23.5%) while PAS’s Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang garnered 17.6% of support. Instead of looking at this seriously, Mahathir has the audacity to scoff at the findings calling it baseless and “syok sendiri”. I wonder who is full of oneself, Mahathir or Rafizi.
Even a simple Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council has hit the brick wall. While sources claim many agreed to Mahathir bring the Chairman, a note from Anwar scorned the lineup. Despite the melodramatic hand-shake in court and public kissing, Anwar and his PKR comrades still only agree on Mahathir being an advisor. It is obvious that PKR does not trust the snake that it feeds.
Rafizi has been very vocal and critical of Mahathir recently. Rafizi admitted that Mahathir may have lost more than RM 42 billion during his time. We are probably in an economic mess today because of Mahathir’s failed coups. Mahathir needs to be held accountable for the muddle he caused. We are still bleeding post Mahathirism. Rafizi’s revelation on the wealth accumulated by Mahathir and his sons secondary to nepotism has gone viral on e-media. Rafizi claims Mahathir’s house in Country Heights alone cost RM 20 million. With so much filth in Mahathir’s closet, how can the Opposition hero-worship him presently?
It is astounding DAP leaders have turned a blind eye to all of Mahathir’s wrongdoings and are working with him today. From raging war against tyranny, dictatorship, and favouritism to accepting the man behind all the above. The demise of Karpal Singh has indeed led to the quietus of principles upheld by DAP all this while.
