Beer fest - Selangor exco brews five questions for IGP

A Selangor exco member has urged the police to clarify why "Oktoberfest" events are allowed to take place in Malacca, Johor and Sarawak but not in Selangor.
This was among five questions posed by Ean Yong Hian Wah following the police's decision not to give the green light for the "Bavaria F&B Festival" at a shopping mall in Petaling Jaya.
"Is it because of a double standard?" asked the exco in a Facebook posting.
According to a letter sighted by Malaysiakini, Petaling Jaya district police chief Mohd Zani Che Din said intelligence reports indicated that the event would be a target for militants.

Ean Yong (photo) also asked why the police were capable of ensuring security during SEA Games 2017 but not a small event such as the "Bavaria F&B Festival".
"Does this mean that all feasts or activities involving alcohol are no longer safe in Malaysia?
"Why can't the police take steps to ensure the safety of the event instead of preventing it?

"Is Malaysia a country that is no longer safe and is constantly threatened by militant attacks?" he added.
He said if the police are incapable of doing their job and preventing crime from happening, then the police would lose public confidence.
He also urged inspector-general of police Mohd Fuzi Harun to respond to these questions.- Mkini
