DAP rep lodges report against AGC's 'interference' in police probe

Kampung Tunku assemblyperson Lau Weng San today lodged a report against a special task force established by the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) to monitor investigations into MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad's alleged extra-marital affair.
Lau lodged the report at the Dang Wangi police station this morning but was later requested to present himself at the Petaling Jaya police station to have his statement recorded. He was accompanied by former Selangor executive councillor Ronnie Liu.
In his report, Lau urged the police to investigate the task force under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which concerns “obstructing a public servant in discharge of his public functions”. Offenders under this section can be punished with up to two years jail or an RM10,000 fine, or both, if found guilty.
“We think this (task force) is tantamount to obstructing police from carrying out their duties, and warrants sufficient attention for the police to investigate,” Lau told Malaysiakini when contacted after lodging the report this morning.
Malaysiakini has sighted the report.
Last week, Attorney-General Apandi Ali (photo) announced that the AGC had set up a special task force to monitor police investigations into Dzulkifli's alleged affair.

Inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun had previously said that Dzulkifli was being investigated under Section 498 of the Penal Code, which deals with the “enticing or taking away, or detaining with a criminal intent, a married woman”.
Offenders can be jailed up to two years, fined or both, if convicted.
Referring to an Oct 20 news report on the issue in Malay daily Sinar Harian, Lau also called for scrutiny into the possible personal involvement of Apandi in the investigation, thus overstepping the boundaries of his powers as AG.
“Apandi was quoted in the report as saying he wanted to ‘memantau dengan dekat’ (monitor the investigations closely).
“How dekat is dekat?
“We want (the police to) investigate if Apandi meant something else, and if he will interfere with investigations,” Lau added.
Recently, there were viral videos circulated, alleging Dzulkifli's affair with a married woman, which purportedly caused the woman to divorce her husband. The videos also claimed that Dzulkifli and the woman had even gone for trips to Bali, Indonesia, together.
Dzulkifli has maintained that the videos were aimed at discrediting MACC's efforts and stressed that the commission would not be deterred from its duty to root out graft.- Mkini
