Jamal, if arrest is ‘going too far’, what then of your actions?

YOURSAY | ‘This statement by a serial lawbreaker who uses unlawful violence is ironic.’
David Dass: Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos was arrested in connection to his beer bottle-smashing stunt outside the Selangor state secretariat office on Thursday morning.
Jamal said “I think this is going too far” in relation to being surrounded and arrested by police after an Umno division meeting in Sekinchan. How ironic.
This is a statement by a serial lawbreaker. A man who leads groups to intimidate and terrorise. He is a symbol of how bad things had become. It is the terrorist who changes things by force, threat or actual violence. People can actually be subjugated by fear.
Do we allow people like this to undermine our democratic process? Do we believe in the rule of law? It is actually quite a simple decision to make: the rule of law or the rule of the mob?
Shunyata: Jamal, it was "too much" indeed for the police not to let you have teh tarik with your Sekinchan fellows after your party division meeting.
It was an ambush by the men in blue? Gosh, I am so sorry for your ordeal. Anyway, I suppose they will make it up to you with a cuppa in the morning.
In the meantime, enjoy drawing sympathy from your fan club, Jamal, and not to worry, going by precedent, you should be out soon.
Zhugeliang: This man is a serial lawbreaker and a ‘terrorist’. The definition of a terrorist is, "a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims".
Paradoxically, he is also an Umno divisional chief. Obviously, he is an embarrassment to the government.
Umno is tarnishing its image by letting this man run wild and terrorise the people.
Lajib: Jamal is a threat to society. Shouldn't he be arrested and detained under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 for the maximum duration?
He and his supporters should also be charged under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for organising a violent assembly.
Why didn't the police stop him on the spot? If he refused to disperse, the authority could have prosecuted him like PKR Batu MP Tian Chua.
Why is the standard operating procedure for Jamal different from Tian Chua?
Slumdog: Jamal sees himself as the victim. The poor fellow thought his arrest was going too far. Is his smashing of beer bottles not considered going too far?
But true to form, he will receive a slap on the wrist with a feather and be told not to do it again. What does he need to do for him to be jailed?
All his past antics have resulted in no action. He should also be charged with public nuisance, littering, being armed in public with a sledgehammer and causing fear.
Also, as a Muslim, how is it that he can purchase and handle alcohol - isn’t that haram?
Anonymous #21828131: Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), please do your job effectively without fear or favour.
The rakyat is fed up with this man and this type of criminal behaviour, and that no effective punishment has been meted out by the powers-that-be due to selective punishment.
Hang Tuah PJ: "I am now on the way to Shah Alam police district headquarters,” Jamal said in a text message on being arrested. You mean he was not handcuffed? He could not have texted if his hands were handcuffed behind his back.
If it was an opposition member, he would have been wrested to the floor and hands handcuffed at the back. Why this preferential treatment?
He was armed, you know. A sledgehammer can kill a person. That is a dangerous weapon. It is not a yellow balloon.
Ace: In light of the police's objections to the "German F&B Festival" event in Klang, the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) is expected not to greenlight the event after reaching a tentative consensus on the matter.
Most of us always thought that a country's police force is there to provide security to everyone under any circumstances - whether it is a normal day in a complex or in a padang, or on the road in the cities or in the kampungs or during special events in these same places throughout the country.
Now, it looks like we are wrong. Our police force can actually pick and choose where they will provide security, when to provide security and if anyone does not agree with their point of view or is not kowtowing to them, they can just ignore that place or event.
If trouble erupts, let the members of the public who are there get beaten up or die. No need to bother, because it is not their business anymore.
FellowMalaysian: There's a final way to circumvent the predicament. Selangor senior exco member Teng Chang Khim should now take this up in a state exco meeting and decide whether the German F&B Festival can be held in Klang and also elsewhere in Selangor.
If so, the state exco has the right and authority to instruct the Klang Municipal Council or other district, municipal or city councils to abide by their directive. The police will also need to comply and provide the necessary security.
Anonymous_40bb: Beer oh beer! The woes you cause to our freedom in Malaysia. You are innocent in the eyes of those who deem you fit to make them merry. Others despise you but they buy you only to be smashed in a protest.

Beer oh beer! You are only as innocent as those who think you to be. Those who make you are not as innocent as they seem to be. Those who use you are not innocent at all.
Beer oh beer! The woes you cause to our freedom in Malaysia.- Mkini
