JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Bahru is one of three favourite destinations for foreigners staying in Southeast Asia.
State tourism, domestic trade and consumerism committee chairman Tee Siew Kiong said the other two destinations were Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
According to him, the inclination by foreigners to live in Johor Bahru could be seen through the statistics on foreigners participating in the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme.
He said since the programme was introduced in 2002, it had attracted 34,531 people from 127 countries as of June this year.
“Of the total, some 14,000 participants or 40% chose Johor, especially Johor Bahru and most of them are from China, Japan, Bangladesh, United Kingdom and Iran,” he told reporters after a MM2H function here yesterday.
According to Tee, Johor Bahru’s selection as the destination of choice was based on their satisfaction with the affordable cost of living, high tolerance of the community, good weather and the world class healthcare sector.
“In the future, we will continue to work with the federal tourism and culture ministry to further promote MM2H to foreigners,” Tee said, adding that the event was aimed at obtaining feedback from MM2H participants to enable the ministry and stakeholders to make improvements to strengthen the programme. -FMT
