Papagomo kicks off 'Rafizi-inspired' fundraiser to pay Anwar damages

A blogger has kicked off a fundraising exercise to pay what he estimates to be close to RM1 million in damages and costs owed to PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.
Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, popularly known as Papagomo, said he was inspired by PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli's successful crowdfunding exercise when the latter had to pay damages and costs to the National Feedlot Corporation.
"I am following my idol's (Rafizi) footsteps.
"I ask my supporters, or government leaders to contribute to my fund so that I can pay the damages to Anwar," Wan Muhammad Azri said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
Wan Muhammad Azri owes Anwar RM800,000, plus interest in damages, and RM50,000 in costs after the former opposition leader successfully sued the blogger for defamation.
As of April 27 this year, the total sum plus interest was RM951,260.
He estimated it may be around RM1 million as of today.
Wan Muhammad Azri claimed that he had tried to arrange for this to be paid in monthly instalments, but Anwar's lawyers had rejected this, insisting on a lump sum payment.
The blogger has set up a bank account using the name "Invoke Solutions" to collect the funds.
Invoke Solutions is the same name as Rafizi's research institute.
Wan Muhammad Azri said the difference is that his entity is not a Sdn Bhd, while Rafizi's is.
Anwar had sued the blogger for defamation following the publication of lewd images said to be of Anwar with another man.
