KUALA PERLIS: Every mosque in the state should be equipped with closed circuit televisions (CCTV) to monitor those misusing the sacred building to carry out negative activities, says Perlis police chief Azisman Alias.
He said there were various negative activities occurring recently and it was feared that the spread of misguided Islamic teachings could also occur in mosques.
“With CCTV recordings it will be easier for us to monitor movements, facilitate post investigations and deter the occurrence of negative activities,” he told reporters at the launch of 1Police 1Mosque at Al-Rahmaniah Mosque by Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail here today.
He said 101 mosques statewide were involved in the 1Police 1Mosque programme and it was expected to enhance cooperation between the local authorities and communities.
“A policeman will be responsible for one mosque to act as public relations officer, similar to the programme organised with schools previously.
“They will be the facilitators to warn and advise the mosque committee on any negative activity especially criminal acts going on in the mosque and its surroundings,” he said. -FMT
