BN component parties that want to leave the coalition should just go ahead and do it, says Umno supreme council member Bung Moktar Radin.
"We are not asking anyone to leave, but anyone who wants to stay with us will do so, (and) who wants to leave, please do.
"Even though we will be a small group, at least we will be strong and help the party's victory.
"Umno is still strong at the grassroots, and is the backbone of BN. We can see that other parties are not contributing anything, so what is the point of them staying with us?" Bung asked when met by reporters at the Umno headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
The Kinabatangan MP added that the sooner those who wish to leave do so the better, as BN will not have any hidden enemies.
Umno had won 54 parliamentary seats in the 14th general election. MCA and MIC won just one and two seats respectively.
Meanwhile, its allies in Sarawak, who won 19 seats collectively, are also mulling the possibility of exiting BN.
On a separate matter, Bung confirmed that he will be stepping down as Felcra chairperson.
He said he would be handing in his resignation by month end. -Mkini
