Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has slammed police officers raiding the homes of his children for allegedly eating out of their refrigerators.
Through a statement issued by his lawyer Harpal Singh Grewal, Najib hit out at the “cavalier and irresponsible” manner in which the raid was conducted.
“(It) is reflected by the manner in which the police personnel helped themselves to food and chocolates in the refrigerator, and further demanded that meals be prepared for them.
“The wide publicity surrounding the seizure of what are basically personal items belonging to the children has caused acute humiliation and embarrassment to the family,” said Harpal.
Najib has also questioned the reason behind the seizure of possessions belonging to his children.
Citing the Pavilion Residences raid, Harpal told reporters today that two of the condominium units raided were occupied by Ashman and Nooryana Najwa, Najib’s son and daughter respectively.
According to the lawyer, among the items seized belonging to Ashman were watches and a laptop, while dresses, shoes and baby clothes were taken from Nooryana’s home.
Apart from the raids conducted at the units, 72 bags of cash and jewellery, as well as 284 boxes of high-end designer handbags, were also seized from two condominium units linked to Najib at the Pavilion Residences on Thursday night.
The haul was so enormous that Bukit Aman commercial crime investigation department director Amar Singh could not provide an estimate of the value. -Mkini
