KOTA KINABALU: Perlis police have ordered increased security at Istana Arau following the reappointment of Azlan Man as Perlis menteri besar.
State police chief Azisman Alias said the situation was under control but a contingency plan had been prepared to face any possible scenario.
“I have ordered Arau Police district chief Supt Nanda Maarof to increase security at the Istana Arau today,” he told reporters here.
No reports have yet been lodged about the tensions arising from the appointment of Azlan, who is said to have not received the support from the majority of the state’s Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen.
Azlan took his oath of office as Perlis menteri besar for the second term before the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail at the Istana Arau today.
At a media conference in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon, Perlis BN chairman Shahidan Kassim announced that the Perlis Umno liaison committee had sacked Azlan from Umno effective immediately.
The announcement had received mixed reactions from the netizens, with some even posting insulting and provocative comments over social media platforms.
However, Azisman said the situation was under control and the police had yet to receive any complaint or report from any quarters insulted by the comments.
“The palace staff can also take the screenshots of the insulting statements which were made viral as evidence for us to begin investigation,” he said.
In the May 9 general election, BN won 10 out of the 15 state seats in Perlis with Azlan securing the Bintong state seat. - FMT
