PERLIS UMNO ON POINT OF BREAKUP: SHAHIDAN SACKS AZLAN MAN AS MB, SEEKS MAHATHIR’S HELP TO RESOLVE LEADERSHIP CRISIS IN STATE

Perlis BN chairperson Shahidan Kassim has called on Azlan Man, who was sworn in as Perlis menteri besar this morning, to be sacked with immediate effect.

Speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, he said Azlan should not have accepted the appointment, claiming that he did not have the support of the majority of the assemblypersons in the Perlis assembly.

Shahidan added he, as the state Umno chief, had sacked Azlan from the party, and he is awaiting the central party leadership to follow up on this.

“We have sacked Azlan, effective today. After this, the central party leadership will make an announcement and issue a letter.

“Therefore, now he is an Independent menteri besar,” Shahidan added.

With him at the press conference were the nine Perlis BN assemblypersons who had been absent during Azlan’s swearing-in at the Perlis palace this morning.  – MKINI

Shahidan urges Dr M to intervene over Perlis MB crisis

KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 — Perlis Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim made an unlikely appeal for Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to intervene in Umno’s squabbling over the state mentri besar’s post.

He claimed Datuk Seri Azlan Man, who was sworn in for a second term this morning, did not command the confidence of BN’s nine state assemblymen and has been sacked by Umno, making him an independent state lawmaker.

“I urged the prime minister (Dr Mahathir) to look into the matter and uphold fairness and to adhere to the democratic process,” he said at a media conference in Menara Dato’ Onn here today. – MALAY MAIL
