KUALA LUMPUR (May 16): Policemen were said to be conducting searches on the residence of former Prime Minister Najib Razak in Taman Duta and a high-end condo in Pavilion Residences in Bukit Bintang tonight.
Bernama reported that numerous policemen and senior police officers from Bukit Aman were spotted at a Najib-linked condo in Pavilion Residences.
Over at Taman Duta, scores of journalists and photographers were on standby waiting for latest developments as more than 10 police cars and a Black Maria (a truck used by police to ferry prisoners) were parked outside Najib's private residence on Jalan Langgak Duta.
Malaysiakini reported that a team of police officers, including those from the federal commercial crime department, were inside the bungalow and the raid was believed to be linked to the 1MDB scandal.
Bukit Aman Commercial Crimes chief Amar Singh Ishar Singah had earlier confirmed with Astro Awani that police were searching the house, but declined to comment further.
Earlier, Sentul district deputy police chief Mohamed Rafiq Mohamed Mustafa, who was seen leaving the house at 11.40pm, told Malaysiakini to "wait and see" when asked about the police's presence.
