The National Professors' Council (NPC) hopes Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's decision to dissolve the body can be reviewed.
NPC chief executive officer Raduan Che Rose said although the council respected the decision, thousands of professors would be affected by the council's dissolution.
"We respect the decision by the prime minister but at the same time believe that it should be reviewed.
"This is because the NPC is an academic group of 3,000 professors," he was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.
Following the first cabinet meeting by the new Pakatan Harapan government this morning, Mahathir announced that the NPC would be dissolved.
He said the council was set up with the intention of playing an advisory role, but had become a political entity to prop up the previous BN government.
Mahathir had also announced the dissolution of the Federal Village Development and Safety Committees (JKKKP), the Prime Minister's Department's Performance and Delivery Unit (Pemandu), the Special Affairs Department (Jasa) and Land Public Transport Commission (Spad). - Mkini
