Umno’s acting president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says that all quarters should respect the ongoing probe against former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, as long as it is conducted appropriately.
He said this in response to Najib being questioned by the MACC at its Putrajaya headquarters this morning.
"That is MACC's procedure, and we should respect it.
"All quarters should respect the procedure, as long as it is conducted within the appropriate hours.
"We only do not agree when the enforcement authorities do it at inappropriate hours," he said at a press conference at the Umno headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
Najib reported to the MACC at around 9.30am today to provide his statement in relation to receiving millions from SRC International, a former subsidiary of 1MDB.
The investigation was scuttled when he was prime minister.
After Najib led BN to its first defeat in 61 years at the recent polls, the new Pakatan Harapan government reopened the case, vowing to resolve the 1MDB scandal.
Najib is expected to be questioned further on Thursday.
The police were previously criticised when it launched night raids on Najib's home and several other properties linked to him last week.
As many as 72 bags of cash and jewellery along with 284 boxes of designer handbags were seized in the raid. -Mkini
