Muhyiddin denies meeting with datuk over 80,000 Bangladeshis

Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has denied allegations he had met with an individual who had received approval to bring 80,000 Bangladeshi workers into the country just days before the general election.
In a statement on his Facebook today, the Bersatu president said claims on social media a certain 'Dato’ Amin' had gone to see him over the matter are untrue.
“I want to clarify, I have never known such an individual.
“There has been no discussion between myself and the said individual about the import of foreign workers from Bangladesh to Malaysia,” he said.
The home minister said he will ask the ministry's secretary-general to give a detailed explanation about allegations that the said person had received approval to bring in the 80,000 workers just days before the 14th general election on May 9.
“I have also directed that such an approval, if true, is to be put on hold until I am given a full briefing on the matter,” he said.
Muhyiddin said the Home Ministry will not compromise on anyone found abusing the foreign workers entry system for profit.
“Any act that goes against the laws and that affects national interests will face taught action,” he added.
Since taking over Putrajaya, Pakatan Harapan has announced it would review the 2016 deal to employ 1.5 million migrant workers from Bangladesh over a three-year period.
This is in line with the new government’s plan to reduce Malaysia’s dependence on foreign labour. -Mkini
