PETALING JAYA: Former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman has countered speculation that he had left the country illegally by insisting that he has always used proper immigration channels for his travels.
In a statement today, his lawyer Zahir Shah said Musa was seeking medical treatment, which was long overdue, on the advice of his doctors.
“I wish to put it on record that Tan Sri Musa Haji Aman wishes to clarify that he had never travelled illegally and wish to state that his travels have always been via proper immigration channels,” he said.
“Tan Sri Musa will be back as soon as his medical treatment is completed and his physicians are satisfied with his overall health condition,” he added without disclosing Musa’s whereabouts.
Zahir also said Musa reiterated his willingness to give his full cooperation in assisting the authorities, provided they carried out their tasks fairly and “in earnest adherence to the rule of law.”
Earlier today, Immigration director-general Mustafar Ali had said that Musa, who is Sabah Umno chairman, and Sungai Besar Umno head Jamal Md Yunos had been blacklisted from leaving Malaysia and would be considered to have committed an offence if they were found overseas. He said there were no records of them leaving the country.
A Facebook user recently claimed that he had seen someone resembling Musa at the St Pancras railway station in London.
Musa is being sought by the police to help in investigations connected to a police report made by Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Juhar Mahiruddin over an alleged criminal intimidation report.
Sabah police have said they would wait for him to return to Sabah as he was only required to make a statement in answer to the report.
