24 Indonesians jumped into sea to save themselves as boat began to sink following strong waves.
JOHOR BAHRU: Three Indonesians were killed while 16 others are still missing after a boat capsized in Tanjung Penyusup waters near Kota Tinggi today.
There were five survivors so far.
Johor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) deputy director of operations Captain Sanifah Yusof said the search-and-rescue operations were activated at 7.15am after the survivors were found at Tanjung Penyusup beach.
“An MMEA patrol boat has been dispatched to the area to help rescue the victims.
“The investigation found that 24 Indonesians had jumped into the sea to save themselves as their boat began to sink following the strong waves,” he said.
Sanifah said the bodies of three victims – two men and a woman – were found at 11.20am, 11.50am and 12.05pm on the beach at Teluk Ramunia, Kota Tinggi.
He said the five survivors were three men and two women, aged between 35 and 45. --FMT
