NAJIB STARTS TO SHIVER: ANWAR BACK IN TOWN, TO CAMPAIGN IN SUNGAI KANDIS – MAHATHIR TOO MIGHT COME DESPITE UMNO’S WICKED WISHES FOR HIM

PAKATAN Harapan’s plan to roll out the “big guns” like PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim in the Sungai Kandis by-election is a sign of desperation, said Barisan Nasional candidate Lokman Adam today.
“I’m happy that they are sending Anwar to campaign here. It shows that they are not confident of wining this small by-election,” said Lokman at a press conference in Kota Raja today.
“But don’t expect (Prime Minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad to come,” the Umno supreme council member said.
Ten days into the campaign period, Anwar is expected to join in today to stump for PKR candidate, Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, a popular community leader and religious figure. Polling is this Saturday.
A schedule, sent out daily by the PKR media team, said that the 70-year-old is due to visit former assemblyman Shuhaimie Shafiei’s house later today followed by two ceramahs at Kg Jawa and Jalan Kebun tonight.
An unofficial schedule going around also said that Dr Mahathir and other PH leaders such as DAP’s Lim Guan Eng and Lim Kit Siang, and Amanah’s Mohamad Sabu would be at a “grand finale” ceramah in Klang on Friday night.
Lokman said Anwar had to come to Sungai Kandis to assist Zawawi because there were “factions” within the party that do not want the religious teacher to win.
Local born Zawawi was picked by PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail while Selangor PKR had initially wanted one of three others – former Kota Anggerik assemblyman Yaakob Sapari, Kota Damansara coordinator Mohd Razlan Jalaluddin and Selangor PKR integration bureau vice chairman Mikhael Iskhandaar Abdullah.
The Sungai Kandis by-election was called following Shuhaimie’s death on July 2. Voters will go to the polling booth on Saturday in the three-way fight between PH, BN and independent K Murthy.
PH currently has 51 assemblyman in the 56-seat Selangor assembly while BN has four and PAS has one.
