BN's Sg Kandis candidate hopes for greater Umno-PAS cooperation

BN's candidate for the Sungai Kandis state seat, Lokman Noor Adam, hopes the Aug 4 by-election will be a starting point for political cooperation between Umno and PAS to battle Pakatan Harapan.
Lokman said he thinks that Umno and PAS should come together under a coalition, or as a party.
"God willing, Umno and PAS can combine under one political party.
"If that is not possible, the two parties should remain as different entities but come together under one coalition," he told reporters on the campaign trail today.
Lokman was commenting on Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's statement yesterday that the Sungai Kandis by-election is being seen as a testing ground for possible political cooperation between Umno and PAS - which is evident in the Islamist party giving way to BN to contest the state seat.
Commenting further, Lokman said political cooperation between Umno and PAS is crucial in the interest of the Malays and Islam.
Muslims, he said, should stick together on Islamic issues.
"So far, I see Umno has no problems (with political cooperation) because we cannot survive alone. We need PAS with us," he said.
Lokman believes that once all Malays came together, the non-Malays will also start supporting them, as they will be seen as having the potential of ruling the country, instead of just being the opposition.
PAS has agreed to sit out the Sungai Kandis by-election.
Come Aug 4, Lokman will face Harapan's Zawawi Ahmad Mughni and independent candidate Murthi Krishnasamy.
The Sungai Kandis state seat fell vacant after the death of PKR assemblyperson Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2.
Mat Shuhaimi won the Sungai Kandis seat with a 12,480-vote majority in GE14. - Mkini
