The prosecution has withdrawn the charge against PKR member Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, better known as Ratu Naga, for allegedly insulting former premier Najib Abdul Razak.
Her lawyer Latheefa Koya said the prosecution had informed the court that attorney-general Tommy Thomas had accepted the defence's representation and the charge was withdrawn.
The Sepang Sessions Court then discharged the accused.
Syarul Ema Rena was first charged in February 2016 under Section 233(3) of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) over Facebook comments against Najib over the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement.
She had previously applied for the matter to be brought to the Federal Court to challenge the constitutionality of Section 233 of the CMA, but this was dismissed by the High Court.
The matter is currently under appeal at the Court of Appeal, but Latheefa said it will be automatically dropped in view of her discharge today.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo has said that Putrajaya will review Section 233 to refine what constitutes an offence under the Act. -Mkini
