Motion to name PAC chairperson to be brought in early Aug - Nga

A motion will be brought to the Dewan Rakyat in early August to appoint the new Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson and its deputy, said Dewan Rakyat Deputy speaker Nga Kor Ming.

"According to our schedule, a motion will be brought to name the PAC chairperson and deputy.

"If we follow the parliament schedule, this will be brought on August 6 or 7, so I think we still have time to deal with it.

"No rush, let us do it in the best way," Nga said to reporters when he visited the media centre in Parliament today.

He was responding to a question on when the PAC chairperson will be appointed.

It was reported previously that opposition leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was being considered as the PAC chairperson.

However, Zahid said he had yet to receive any official offer and would need to discuss with his partners in the opposition first.

Meanwhile, Nga, who is the Teluk Intan MP, said no names have been submitted as candidates for PAC chairperson.

"We will deal with it when the time comes, but don't worry, we still have time," he said.

MPs have also been reprimanded over the incident of the Dewan Rakyat being delayed after failing to meet its quorum on Tuesday, Nga said.

"They have received the message, and I have high hopes that all of them will take responsibility and carry out their duties and be present in parliament," he said.

For now, there are no plans to take further action against the MPs who were late that day, he said.

Many of the parliamentarians, he added, are first-time MPs, so he believes they should be given some leeway.
