Cops wrap up probe into 'beaten in Anwar's office' claim

Police have completed their investigations into the alleged assault which took place at PKR president Anwar Ibrahim's office in Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya.
Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmat said the investigation papers (IP) would be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for further action.
"Yes, we have recorded statements from all the parties involved and completed the investigations... We will send the IP to the DPP soon," he said when met at the Selangor police headquarters in Shah Alam today.
The report was filed by a 26-year-old man last month, who claimed that Anwar's political secretary Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak assaulted him at the premises.
The man also submitted a medical report from a private hospital regarding the alleged injuries he sustained during the incident.
It was said the two were locked in a heated argument before the situation escalated.
On the same day, Anwar's office denied that such an incident occurred or that the victim suffered serious injuries as claimed.
The PKR president's press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said the complainant was a part-time researcher who purportedly had discipline problems, including drug abuse.
According to him, the researcher has since been terminated due to these issues.
Tunku Nashrul said witnesses, who were present in the office, revealed that the researcher had prior injuries and not as a result of the alleged incident.
“Witnesses also said the individual entered the premises without permission on the day of the incident.
“There were no untoward incidents which took place as claimed by the individual,” he added.
The case was investigated under Section 323 and Section 526 of the Penal Code for intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt.
In another development, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mazlan Mansor (photo) confirmed that Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali's statement regarding the sex videos scandal.
Asked if police would quiz other PKR members and leaders, he replied: “The investigation is ongoing and we will call anyone who is needed to facilitate investigations, not only those from PKR."
Previously, it was reported that police have quizzed more than 20 people in connection with the case.
Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, has claimed that the videos are part of a nefarious campaign to ruin his political career. - Mkini
