Probe on sex video ongoing, no time-frame set, says IGP

Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador.
KUALA LUMPUR: Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the authenticity of a sex video implicating a minister, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said today.
Hamid said he was not putting any pressure on his men investigating the case, stressing that many aspects needed to be looked into.
“We cannot do things in a rush. The case is still being investigated, and it is being done according to the standard operating procedures. We are also getting guidance from the attorney-general.
“I cannot give you a time-frame. But I can assure you that we are working towards solving the case,” he said, adding that it has also not been decided if any charges will be brought against anyone, and that they are still in the process of gathering evidence.
Hamid was speaking at a press conference after attending the “Program Kelestarian Pertubuhan” at Rumah Puspanita today. Present were Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Registrar of Societies director-general Masyati Abang Ibrahim.
Over the past week, clips of the gay sex video involving two men have gone viral.
Haziq Aziz, the Santubong PKR Youth chief, had confessed on Facebook that he was one of the two men in the video.
He claimed the other person was Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.
But Azmin has categorically denied the allegation, saying it was made to tarnish his reputation and destroy his political career and has threatened to sue.
‘Party polls will proceed’
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin, who is also PPBM president, allayed concerns among members over when the party polls will be held, saying the party upheld democratic principles.
Muhyiddin said while it was compulsory for party elections to be carried out once every three years, there were a few administrative matters that needed to be taken care of first.
“Firstly, we need to amend several clauses in the party constitution to include how we will carry out the party polls. At present, the party constitution is not clear on that.
“For us to make amendments to the party constitution, we will need to hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM). If it is approved, only then can we implement the changes.
“We need to do that first. We cannot set a date (for the polls) yet. We need to settle things one by one. But a date will be set and party polls will proceed,” he said.
Another issue which is being looked into involves members who have yet to be properly registered at their respective branches.
“The electoral process will begin at the branch level. Therefore, it is important for the members to be registered at the respective branches and divisions. Only after that can we have the party polls.
“These are administrative matters. We need to tidy everything up properly so that there will be no problems during the party polls,” he said, adding that they will strictly follow the regulations set by the RoS. - FMT
