KUALA LUMPUR: A group claiming to represent 30 non-governmental organisations has launched a donation drive hoping to hire video technology experts to verify several viral gay sex clips implicating PKR’s Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Spokesman Ariffin Abu Bakar said the US has better technology to do digital forensic tests to verify the video clip.
“Our technology is still outdated in terms of forensic IT technology,” he told a press conference today.
The NGOs represented by the group include Baks Malaysia, Epanco Malaysia, Rajawali Malaysia and NGO Bersekutu Malaysia.
Ariffin said the “independent” probe was not to undermine a police probe into the same video clips.
He said a Facebook page will be set up soon to inform the public the status of the donation drive.
Ariffin said the move was out of concerns over gutter politics.
“We don’t want gutter politics. We know Pakatan Harapan won in a clean way and we don’t want the repeat of 1998,” he said, referring to the sodomy allegations which led to the dramatic sacking of Anwar Ibrahim.
“As Malaysians we do not want too much politicking. We want the government to look at cost of living, among other things,” he added.
He said the person implicated in the video has the right to defend himself if an independent probe was carried out, adding that the public should also stop sharing the video as it could tarnish Malaysia’s name. - FMT
