The frustration of Indonesian football fans boiled over as their national team suffered a last-minute defeat to Malaysia in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday night.
Supporters clashed with security personnel outside the Bung Karno stadium, which led the authorities to contain the crowd with tear gas, according to CNN Indonesia.
Malaysia's Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was among those trapped in the stadium after the match, which Malaysia won 3-2.
His press secretary told a WhatsApp group for journalists that both the minister and himself were still in the stadium, but safe.
The match was earlier stopped when the scores were level as unruly Indonesian fans threw missiles on the pitch.
The Harimau Malaya pulled off a stunning victory over Indonesia in the Asian Zone Group G match of the World Cup 2022 Qualifiers.
Mohamadou Sumareh was the hero for the Malaysians after scoring twice in the match, including the last-gasp winning goal. The other goal for Harimau Malaya was scored by Syafiq Ahmad.
Malaysia's next game is a home tie against the United Arab Emirates at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Tuesday. The other teams in Group G are Thailand and Vietnam.
